What can Screenrights International do for me?

Screenrights International helps you collect international copyright royalties in a cost effective and efficient manner.

Societies in Europe, Canada and the United States collect retransmission and copying royalties in their territories. If your titles have been broadcast in these territories, these societies may be holding royalties for you.

In order for you to collect this money, you need to have registered specified title details with each society by its particular deadline.

As this process can be costly and time consuming, Screenrights International acts as a one-stop shop that helps you access this money. You simply need to register specified details with us once. In many instances, you will already need to do this in order to collect Australian retransmission royalties. We ensure that your titles are registered in the correct format by each society’s
deadline. We also deal with any conflicts over title registration and sign warranties that are necessary for payments on your behalf.

How can I get Screenrights International to collect my royalties?

Retransmission royalties are generated when free to air television or radio broadcasts are retransmitted across a different network. This is because provisions in the Australian Copyright Act allow broadcasts of copyright material to be retransmitted in Australia provided the retransmitter pays a royalty to the rightsholders.

When did retransmission come into effect in Australia?

If you are not a member you will need to complete a membership agreement and a warranty that you own or control the relevant titles that you wish to register. You will then need to send us certain specified details in order for us to register your titles with the societies. email international@screenrights.org or download our membership forms and title registration forms.

In many cases, members may have already registered details with us for Australian royalties. Making this registraton global is simple. Just email international@screenrights.org for more information.

What information do I need to supply for Screenrights International to register my titles?

Other societies stipulate the information they need from Screenrights in order for a title to be registered. The title registration form (which can be downloaded) specifies all the information we will need from you. This includes title details, as well as production, cast and crew, genre and duration details.

How do I supply this information to Screenrights International?

Ideally, title registration details should be sent to us by email as this speeds up the registration process. However, where this is not possible, we can supply a form for you to complete. This form can also be downloaded. If you have a large catalogue of titles, please contact us to discuss the easiest way to register your programs with us.

What royalties are collected?

There are two main types of royalties that Screenrights International collects. Blank tape or private copying levies are royalties paid to compensate copyright owners for the private or home copying of their work (for example recording programs from television at home). Retransmission royalties are royalties paid by cable and satellite operators who retransmit or carry free to
air broadcasts as part of their service.

How much does Screenrights International charge?

Screenrights International is a non-profit service. We simply deduct our administrative overheads from the royalties that we collect. The rate is set at 11%, one of the most competitive in international collections.

When can I expect to receive royalties?

Screenrights International is continually making royalty payments. When we recieve royalties from an international society, we contact the relevant rightsholders and pay them.
